Melancholy Hill

Jia-Yun Chen

In the past time, car was a symbol of modernization and thereby the relationship between people and the environment was progressively changed. Nowadays many cities were full of highways designed for car, and the places with historic and scenic value were destroyed and forgotten. With the change of the time, people are changing their thoughts. Some cities have chosen to remove roads designed for cars and turn what was once a highway into urban parks. Yuanshan has always been a scenic area surrounded by the hills and the river. It used to be the Maruyama Shrine’s religious area, the Taipei Zoo, and the Spring Swimming Pool that people visited, however it has been occupied by highways now. The environment destroyed, and the memories of each period were smashed by the interchanges. Under the premise of removing the highways,I designed a landscape museum with which integrated the historical elements on the site that connects the relationship between the hill and the river. When walking through it, people can feel the contrast between the footbridge and the remain part of highway. After the process of adjusting the flood wall, this place can successfully return to the nature, and eventually, people were able to roam around it.
