Climbing 2022

KIM YOUNGJUN(金永俊)

Climbing, FHD 1ch, 2022, sold at Klipdrops NFT 動態影像作品 An odd phenomenon happens at an indoor pool where the reflection of mountains is cast over the water, where two different points of contact occur. Swimmers are actually swimming in water, but visually, they are in the mountains. Since visual actions leading to hallucinatory thinking often overwhelm physical actions, the protagonist in the artwork may be actually climbing a mountain. The artist believes that there is a boundary of misperception transcending dimensions between people and mountains. There exists the boundary between fiction and reality, the boundary of stability and threat, and the boundary of image and synesthesia, yet the boundary is drawn clearly in front of the two dimensional mountain that 'exists but does not exist'. What did the mountain beyond that boundary find in the person struggling in the mountain’s illusion reflected over the water surface? The form and meaning of the mountain decided by humans sometimes make the mountain an observer watching humans. The object of 'the mountain' in the space of the swimming pool may happen to be a massive triangular mirror reflecting our images.
